Changes to OData Feed + Photos and Videos

9/19/2016   by Thoroughbred Catalog

In order to provide a better degree of exclusivity to auction houses who sponsor their entire catalogues on Thoroughbred Catalog, we are making our OData service available only for sales that have been sponsored, either by a sales company or by a third-party advertiser. This helps ensure fair usage of our anonymously-available OData service.

While there are sales listed for Fasig-TIpton, Keeneland, and OBS Sales, these sales will not be available through the OData service unless they are sponsored.

This is an evolution in the Thoroughbred Catalog business model which relies on direct sponsorship and ad revenue. Sponsored sales on Thoroughbred Catalog will not contain Google AdSense ads, but will instead have a banner advertisement for the sponsoring auction house. The OData feed for a sponsored sale can also be used by the auction house to publish the sale listings on their website without ever sending the user to the Thoroughbred Catalog website, which provides a seamless, unified user experience for the buyers.

While it was never an intention of Thoroughbred Catalog to directly become involved in photography and/or videography, Thoroughbred Catalog will be attending some (mostly Mid-Atlantic and possibly other east-coast) sales throughout the year to capture photos and videos of horses whose photos and videos cannot be found elsewhere to ensure that you, the buyers, have great photo and video content to use in your virtual inspection experiences. The first sale that we will be capturing photos and videos for is the Fasig-TIpton Midlantic Fall Yearlings at Timonium, MD in October.

When the consignors don't want to help it happen, we will make it happen!
